Oyinkan Braithwaite „My Sister, the Serial Killer” – book review

I was struck by the cover of this book. And then I heard it got longlisted for the Booker this year. Amazon had it on sale for Kindle, and I just could not resist- even though with that good a cover, you sort of want it for your bookshelf.

This was a quick and very enjoyable read. The story is set in Nigeria. Korede is a typical elder sibling- always tasked with taking care of her younger sister, Ayoola. The beautiful Ayoola happens to have serious dating issues. She murders her boyfriends and wants her sister to come help and clean up the mess. But when Ayoola turns her attention to a young doctor Korede is in love with, Korede’s loyalties are put to the test… with no-one to confide in apart from a comatose patient, how will Korede decide what the right thing to do is?

I’m not sure I necessarily agree that this book is necessarily a literary masterpiece, but hey, who cares. It is really good fun!
