They’re both female, blonde, and (justifiably) very angry. Being blonde and female- I’m enjoying this showdown a lot. If only the men interfered a bit less…
All hail Cersei, Queen of the Andals and the First Men.
Cersei has lost what she loved the most in the past few seasons: her three children. So far her life has been the fulfillment of Maggy the Frog’s prophecy.
“Gold shall be their crowns and gold their shrouds, she said. And when your tears have drowned you, the valonquar [little brother] shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.” (A Feast for Crows)
The only thing that remains is her lust for the throne.
Note that the prophecy also says this:
Queen you shall be… until there comes another, younger and more beautiful, to cast you down and take all that you hold dear.
Note however that Cersei is with child, which means she has a chance to get her life’s dreams back… Here enters Daenerys Targaryen who claims she has the right to the throne, despite the fact that she has only set foot in Westeros a few months ago.
All hail Daenerys, Daenerys of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, The Unburnt, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Queen of Meereen,Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Protector of the Realm, Lady Regent of the Seven Kingdoms, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons
Daenerys has almost lost everything too – her two closest friends (Jorah and Missandei) and two of her three dragon children. According to the prophecy by a witch, she will never have children again.
When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves. When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. (A Game of Thrones)
Dany believes she was born to rule the iron throne and is justifiably furious with Cersei for stealing her birthright and murdering both Missandei and Rhaegal. As a Targaryen, we suspect she feels that she is right to torch King’s Landing and take Westeros with “blood and fire”. These are, after all, the words of her house.
But many people feel that Jon will betray his beloved if Dany decides to burn down King’s Landing. This would chime with another prophecy, according to which Dany will be betrayed ‘for love”
Three fires must you light… one for life and one for death and one to love… (…) three mounts must you ride… one to bed and one to dread and one to love… The voices were growing louder, she realized, and it seemed her heart was slowing, and even her breath…three treasons will you know… once for blood and once for gold and once for love…
So what do we think will happen?
Will Varys and Jon betray Dany?
Will Euron betray Cersei?
The prophecies seem contradictory – one indicating that Dany will displace Cersei and the other that Jon will betray Dany? Dany was also told to beware of the”perfumed seneschal “. Could that be Varys?
Note also that: IF Jon Snow is the prince that was promised then the fate of his beloved wasn’t all that great…
