Top Ten Tuesday – Books on my Winter TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish in June 2010.  You can find a list of subjects for each week here.

This Top Ten Tuesday list is going to be very short… basically because I didn’t manage to read half of the books I was planning to read this autumn!

So, my number 1 priority on this list is:

Ron Chernow’s Alexander Hamilton

Alexander-Hamilton

This has long featured on my reading list but has now become urgent, since I’m seeing the musical on 14th December, and I want to finish reading it before then. So far I’m on page 226 of 731. But there’s a lot on during the weekends and evenings before the 14th December, which makes me think I will really have to stay focused on this one.

Also, it’s a bit of a brick, and carrying it around to read at lunch-break at work has slightly hurt my back last week. Ouch.

To be honest, I’m really enjoying so far. I’ve been surprised how many times the Lin-Manuel Miranda lyrics are actually quoting historical characters (for example, Washington’s question “Are these the men with which I am to defend America?”). Also, I was delighted to discover Hamilton’s anti-slavery campaign and surprised to find out how often he was at odds with Washington.

Anyhow, I will write a full review as soon as I finish reading it…

These are the other books that I would like to read this winter:

thisislondon smallgreatthings TheSilkRoads APersonalREcord GunsGermsand Steel remains of the day

Kazuo Ishiguro’s The Remains of the Day is the only addition to the list (the rest are covered here). It’s also perhaps the most manageable – as it’s fiction, present on my bookshelf, and relatively short…

What are you planning to read this winter? Have you read any of those books?
