Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish in June 2010 – there’s a different topic for every week.  This week’s topic is a Throwback Freebie- so I chose to write about

I’ve slowed down a bit with re-reading books recently. It’s not that I have fewer books that I would like to be reading…. The opposite in fact… But I feel guilty rereading books when there are so many others that I haven’t read! I guess when you’re younger you feel that you have far more time to do all the things you haven’t done yet, so you are less racked by guilt…. It’s so much fun to look back and remind myself of my old favourites.

1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen I can’t even count how many times I reread it. There was a time I had to take a break from it as I could basically recite it by heart. Basically Jane Austen’s voice controlled the narration in my head – if you’ve lost count of how many times you’ve read Austen you will know what I mean!
2. The Discworld Series by Terry Pratchett. Particularly the Sam Vimes and Granny Weatherwax books
3. The Lord of the Rings by J.R. R. Tolkien –there was a time when I used to reread this trilogy every year. I’ve started rewatching the films recently and I realized that these are due a reread soon. Stay tuned.
4. The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot (oh my goodness) the ultimate relaxation read. I do not understand how Meg Cabot knew exactly what it was like to be a teenager when I was that age, but she most certainly did.
5. Bridget Jones’s Diaries by Helen Fielding ( possibly because I was slightly too young for it, which made me appreciate it even more)
6. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Mr Rochester was the ultimate heartthrob
7. The Jeżycjada Books by Małgorzata Musierowicz. Insofar as I know these books have not been translated into English. They are basically a chronicle (from 1977- to the present day) of a network of Polish families living in Poznań. They’re warm and sweet and optimistic.
8. Master and Margarita by Michaił Bułhakow I didn’t have any clue of what was actually going on in this novel the first time I read it – yet I loved it, and found myself reading it again and again. Each time understanding perhaps the tiniest bit more.
9. The Harry Potter Books (obviously) – every time a new book was released I would reread the previous ones.
10. The Little World of Don Camillo Giovannino Guareschi  These books tell the story of a Catholic priest living in a small town in Northern Italy and his daily struggles with the leader of the local communist party, Peppone. Though the two usually are seen spitting fire at each other, they are at times dangerously close to being very good friends. The gentle humanity and good humour of these books has always calmed me down.
