A lot of things happened in the latest episode of the Game of Thrones.

 

So much has happened, in fact, I’ve managed to read a review of this episode which had managed to entirely omit Tyrion’s visit to King’s Landing from its otherwise complete summary of events. So let me talk about it.

 

To be honest, Jaime’s encounter with his brother was somewhat underwhelming – yes, of course, out of necessity it had to be short– but, still. Jaime did not mention his misunderstanding concerning Joffrey’s murder, and Tyrion failed to mention that he caught their father almost in flagrante delicto with Shae.

 

Not only that, but Bronn and Tyrion managed to meet again – and Bronn stayed in King’s Landing rather than leaving in Tyrion. Surely, that is bizarre? Bronn must know that Cersei and Jaime’s side is the losing side, and if he wants to have any chance of a castle he should throw his lot in with Daenerys. The only reason I could think of for him staying is that he was worried his disappearance would look suspicious. But now that he has stayed it seems Cersei wants him punished. Bad call, Bronn.

 

 

Tyrion fails to explain to Jaime why he supports with Daenerys – and as a whole, the whole episode does little to clarify this. I’ve said this before, and I’ve said it again. Not only is Dany morally superior to Cersei. She is also from the ruling dynasty of Targaryens.

 

Randyll Tarly’s silly claim that Daenerys is not his Queen, and that his Queen Cersei is ‘from here’ is ludicrous– simply because there never was a ruler of the whole of Westeros whose origins were from Westeros. The many kingdoms of Westeros were conquered only by the Targaryens. And only Targaryens managed to rule them. With blood and dragonfire. Even Robert Baratheon comes from a house whose origins are linked to the Targaryens (Orys Baratheon, the founder of the house was rumoured to be a base born half-brother of Aegon Targaryen.)

 

So I am slightly huffy when the internet complains about the deaths of Randyll and Dickon Tarly. Sure, being burned by dragonfire isn’t pleasant. But Randyll tried to stage his son’s Sam’s death in a hunt so that his youngest could inherit. He’s not a nice man, and I doubt he would be of much use to anyone on the wall. Dickon, is another matter, but his shameless support for his father’s foolishness left Daenerys no choice.

 

Cersei’s claim to the Iron Throne is nonexistent and she continues to sit only through sheer stubbornness. The logical solution for her, especially, if she is indeed pregnant (though the internet is casting some serious suspicion on this) would be to stage a disappearance and run to the free cities. Instead, she is basically forcing her brother to commit suicide along with her/ and possibly planning to poison Daenerys at the same time….

 

 

On a separate, more optimistic note – the expedition going outside the wall reminded me very much of the Avengers ensemble?

Also, their plan to capture a wight to take to Cersei seems absolutely impossible and impractical. So that’s another thing they and the Avengers have in common. Absolutely weird and desperate plans. There’s a one in a million chance that it just might work (this is a hidden Terry Pratchett reference for those in the know)
